“ (Through FII), I gained the opportunity to become a better person. Before when I applied for the (FII)fellowship, I was very busy. I didn’t have top notch organization skills needed to be successful in the job market. So I applied for it.. I had to force myself to be a leader. I was a fellowship leader. I wanted to do something, but did not know how to do it. I wanted to do it for my community, how to do this? I learned to be detail-oriented. I learned from (FII staff member), working in the office doing clerical, I watched and learned from her. Also for myself: I had to facilitate meetings, had to write grants, because the fellowship was to do a project for the community, to benefit the community… we applied for grants, did research, everything ourselves… the FII staff were very supportive.”
